Life You Want Weekend: Day 1 Recap & Highlights

Hey guys!
I was pretty bummed about not being able to go see Oprah this weekend, so you can only imagine my “no shame, I’m so freaking excited!!” response when my friend Magen reached out to see if I wanted to go.
To say the least I entered the Toyota Center with a sense of expectancy and even still, I can’t believe the degree in which hearing Oprah speak has exceeded my expectations, so I wanted to make this to share this wth anyone else who would have loved to have been there and couldn’t be.
Tweet me, text me, inbox me any requests for today (day 2). I want it to be like you’re here with me!
*Sidenote Magen’s phone was about to die, so I was going to lend her my mophie extended battery to charge her phone with my mophie, but we went to go grab the swag bags first– Oprah had custom designed Mophie’s in the gift bags!
And the coolest part? Magen was going to get one earlier that day, but passed on it to be smart with her money. Won’t He do it… Speak those things that aren’t as if they are!!
God is good, and I’m a full on believer of favor!
Stay tuned and enjoy!

Coffey Break Chat: 3 Non-Negotiables with Meagan Elyce

Hey guys!
Today I had the pleasure of sitting down with my dear friend and life&style blogger, Meagan Elyce. Over the course of our discussion we couldn’t help but notice that some conversations are too good to keep to ourselves… It was a juicy one indeed 😉
Join us below as she shares her 3 non-negotiables for selecting a future mate!

Need a recap? Here’s a refresher of Meg’s Top 3!
  • God Fearing– I want my partner to love God and establish Him as the head of our household. I want my partner to be a praying man that will pray over our family and feed the word of God into us daily.
  • Family Oriented– I want my partner to be a family man. I want family to be an important factor in his life and I want him to value the relationships he has with them-especially immediate family members like mother/father, brother/sister. Also, could this person be a great father to my future children?
  • Financial & Emotional Stability -It is imperative that my partner be stable in both these areas so that he can help to provide that for our relationship. I want him to not only know that value of a dollar, but know why it is important to save and invest for the future for our family (and actively save and invest) so that we aren’t always looking to keep our heads above water. Emotional stability is important because I want my partner to be there to provide support and love when I may have emotionally checked out and I need that extra love and attention to get me back to where I need to be.

100 Days of Happiness on The Coffey Break

I’m a big believer that you have to be intentional about getting out of a funk, and I’d like to think it starts with parameters. Romans 12:2 encourages us: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will…
100 happy days photoWell, two of my best friends are about to leave the state & country for grad school, combined with a significant handful of life shits that seem to have set up camp in my once easy breezy beautiful carefree world. And in case you’re wondering, they were not invited. Things just happen (or don’t happen), and I’m finally starting to be okay with that. What draws me to the #100HappyDays challenge is that it is such a special opportunity to confront this crazy season by choosing to seek joy (in its fullness) and acknowledge the importance of consciously capturing life’s beautiful moments, big & small. Btw, a few months ago Pastor Jeremy Foster posted an awesome podcast called: HAPPY – When you don’t feel happy , and I still reflect on how the timing of that podcast couldn’t have been better. He said something that I still think is so powerful: We think God’s gonna do it one way… It’s hard to be thankful when I don’t know what’s going on. But this is the part that really struck me, God doesn’t have to live up to your exception but He always lives up to His word. He’s an on time God, and that’s good enough for me. Speaking of which! Tuesday is the vision party for his new church here in Houston, Hope City. I haven’t been this excited about something in a long time! Like praise lap, screaming the time has finally come at the top of my lungs happy haha

Hope City

In case you’re wondering, Pastor Jeremy is the founder of The 429, a church I attended (and actually joined!! for the last few years. I love the Lord, praise and worship, bible study, but I was fully convinced church just wasn’t really the thing for me, so to find a place that I liked enough to join and actively serve was and still is the coolest thing for me. I’m so looking forward to supporting him, and Ms. Jennifer as they embark on this new chapter. It’s going to be such a blessing to this city.  If you’re in the Houston area feel feel to join us Tuesday night at 7:30 at Minute Maid Park. You can register for the event here: Your Hope City. The best is yet to come!

Love What You Do, May!

Hey hey!
Tuesday, May 6th, we had a blast kicking off the summer run of our Love What You Do networking mixer! Dj Fanci, Ahrif Sarumi and I want to extend a huge warm heartfelt thank you to everyone for coming out to support our vision of bringing together our city’s dreamers, doers, believers, etc. to the same place, at the same time. The clothes pin icebreaker was a hit, and it was great to see so many connections being made.
If you’re still drooling over those tasty delights we enjoyed, be sure to follow CHEF VICKY V  @FOODEZonthego! And of course, we’d like to offer an extra special thanks to Grace Rodriguez and Dean’s Downtown for being such great hosts.
Last but not least, congratulations to Ahrif on leaving his job to pursue his dreams full time, and Val (Dj Fanci) on the super successful launch of her video show for 97.9 The Box. You’re living the dream! Love you guys!!
Be sure to: check out @whos_boudreaux, @InMuse & @ohmynamebigtob for updates on their upcoming projects, and post your photos from the event with the hashtag #LWYDHou.
We’ll see you in June! Take a look below for photos from the event!
